Registration Requirements

Registration for Advanced Composition for Non-Native Speakers of English

The only way to register for the online class at http://eslbee.com/academy is to follow these directions.  It is NOT possible to register yourself in this online class.

First, all class participants MUST write a self-introduction of 200-300 words to other class members.  Self-introductions MUST be 200 words or more, so please do not waste time sending 190 words, for example.  The self-introductions you write will be open ONLY to other course participants.  (Outsiders or "guests" are not allowed to enter.)  Please include information about yourself that you feel like sharing with other course participants such as country, language, status (student or teacher), objectives for English or for the course, location (need not be specific, but may be the name of a city or state), hobbies, goals, anything.  My own self introduction is HERE:  http://eslbee.com/academy/user/view.php?id=2&course=1 and your own introduction may be something like that.  You do NOT need to include personal information such as telephone number or even email address.  (An email address is REQUIRED to take the course, but your email address can remain HIDDEN throughout the entire course.)

Please write your introduction using a spell-check and grammar check program, if possible, and then copy/paste it into the form at http://eslbee.com/email.htm.  Your self introduction will come to me, Erlyn Baack, with that form.

Second, if your self-introduction is at least 200 words, I will then send an address for you to upload a photo, much like the photo in my self-introduction, link above.  Your photo should be recent, square, 2" X 2" or 5cm. X 5cm., and sized similar to the illustration here.

Throughout the nine-weeks, most course participants will write well over 6,000 words with a lot of interaction among other course participants.  Both the self-introductions and the photos will make those interactions much more meaningful.  I know that by way of many years of experience, and you will know it too after only a very short time.  My  own personal philosophy of education is that participants are SOCIALIZED into a new level of English proficiency through a course of study and interaction with other course participants in English, and self-introductions and photos both contribute to that socialization process.

At the end of the course, all participants will receive a Certificate of Completion, which will include both your photo and your final score.  (If you do not know how to make a square photo, please let me know what you have, and possibly I can help.)

Third, when I receive both your self-introduction and your photo, I will enroll you manually and send your login and password information including a FORCE PASSWORD CHANGE option.  That means you will be required to set your own password upon entering the online course room for the first time.

The class will begin on Monday, September 13.

TECHNICAL NOTE:  It is NOT POSSIBLE to register for or participate in this course using a HOTMAIL or a LIVE email account.

If you have any questions about the course, please see the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) at http://eslbee.com/academy-docs/advanced_composition_faqs.htm, and if your question is not answered there, please ask using the contact form on that page.
