Memorial services were held for the victims for the next five
years after which the Kent State University administration stopped
their sponsorship and support saying memorial services were "no
longer needed." Kent State officials declared that it had been
"long enough" to grieve for these students, so a May Fourth Task
Force was formed in 1975 to "raise the level of awareness of
students, faculty, and the general public about the May 1970
shootings and the history of subsequent related events."
Through these efforts, in part, permanent memorials were erected
and dedicated on the sites where the students died a full
twenty-nine years after their deaths.
The
Kent State University Library now contains the most complete record of the terrible events of May 4,
1970.
An audio interview with John Filo about his memories of the events of May 4
and the circumstances leading to this photograph and its

Finally, Wikipedia now contains both summaries of the events of
the Kent State Shootings, plus over seventy links to primary
source materials for in-depth research into what really happened
