The ten TWE practice tests on the left provide the opportunity
to practice writing essays similar to the writing required for a real TWE exam.
First, the prompts are similar, and second, the practice tests are timed.
Writing timed responses to the practice tests can be a valuable learning
experience because after writing your essay, you will have the chance to send
yourself your own essay, which you can then analyze for your own writing
strengths and weaknesses.
When you write the Test of Written
English in a real test situation, your essay is scored using the six-point
TWE Scoring Guide.
Your Test of Written English score is a mere number (called a summative score);
it does not provide any information about your essay's strengths or weaknesses.
A Google search of ["twe" "3.5" "4"] provides over
150,000 hits that show a TWE score of 3.5 or 4 is required for most US
universities, but it would be wise, of course, to check the specific TWE
requirement for the university in which you are interested.
